Saelon will pass by later that evening, and Borlas can come with Saelon to a meeting if he wants to. Herumor is mentioned in The Silmarillion, where he and other renegade Númenoreans are described as “mighty and evil,” and the Haradrim as “a great and cruel people.” Even long-lived Númenoreans do not live quite that long, so whether Tolkien intended this to be the same Herumor, who had extended his life through unnatural means, or a new character by the same name, is unknown.Īt the end of the draft, Saelon tells Borlas that if he wants to know more about this secret society, he must dress all in black and wait by the gate behind his house. It becomes clear that Saelon is a member of a secretive group of men who are followers of Herumor, a rebellious Númenorean who went over to the Haradrim, the Southrons, before the Last Alliance centuries earlier. Borlas is working in his garden when his neighbor Saelon, who used to steal apples from the garden when he was a young boy, wanders over for a chat. 5/10/2023 0 Comments 28 days by charles r smith jrBoard of Education eliminates segregation in schools Rosa Parks refuses to get up for a white man and goes to jail for it Althea Gibson was the first black woman to win a tennis title Arthur Ashe was the first black man to win a tennis title Little Rock Nine were black students who went to an white school Wilma Rudolph is the black woman to win 3 Olympic medal On AugMartin Luther King Jr. Bessie Coleman Receives her pilot's license in France on because no American flight schools accept woman or blacks Jesse Owens Wins 4 Olympic metals in Germany Marian Anderson preforms at Lincoln Memorial on Easter Sunday because she was turned down Jackie Robinson First African American to play in a Major League Baseball game Brown vs. **Moving on to the second in the series** However, if there is a real Gilli out there, give your daddies a kiss from me! I have a hard time believing that this is truly a memoir. Gilli is larger than life and so much fun to read about. Most importantly, this book cracked me up. It was so interesting reading about the issues that came up in their relationship- the jealousy, the division of time and affection, and the sexual dynamics. I loved the interplay between Dick (my fave!), Shane (sexy daddy), and Gilli. and I loved every second of it! I am not one for menage relationships usually, but in this setting, I didn't mind it at all. What we do see is Gilli being his irrational, emotional, bratty self. There is certainly mention of sex (in every chapter) but we don't get the play by play. Īlso, most of the sex here is off page (boo! hiss!). For more on domestic discipline, see here. Gilli, Dick, and Shane are in a domestic discipline sort of relationship, which I found completely fascinating. That isn't what this book is about at all. For some reason, I expected more traditional BDSM (traditional BDSM. "Fun with Dick and Shane" was not exactly what I expected. you lovable brat!! I'm not even into fem-dom and I wanted to spank you so hard some of the time! Cheeky cheeky boy! The “Witchcraft, Counter Magic, and Archaeology in Salem and New England,” presentation is part of monthly series held in the Peabody Museum by leading history and archeology experts.īaker cited examples of countermagic in New England, ranging from the witch cakes of Salem Village in 1692 to the daisy wheels carved into houses for protection against evil. Essentially, there are all sorts of things you can do to try to reveal witches and try to protect yourself from witches…You can even use puppets, what we would call voodoo dolls, where you take the doll and you stab it with a pen, you put its feet over the flames, and the person is inflicted,” said Baker during the presentation. “In some ways, counter magic is closely related to apotropaic magic, which is the Greek word for turn away. The presentation focused on the ways in which people from the 1690s believed in countermagic, a form of protecting oneself against evil, and how they used it to expose witchcraft. Stories of warding off witches and magic echoed throughout the Peabody Museum of Archaeology on Tuesday night, when Emerson Baker ’76, author and Professor of History at Salem State University, gave his presentation called “Witchcraft, Counter Magic and Archaeology in Salem and New England.” 5/10/2023 0 Comments Backman a man called oveQuirky and bittersweet, heartbreaking yet outrageously funny, A Man Called Ove is a life-affirming fable for our times.
